Kuwait’s foreign minister has lashed out at Israel’s prime minister, calling him “foolish” and “insane.”

Commenting on Gulf concerns about a possible Israeli strike on Iran, Shaikh Mohammad Al Sabah said that everything was possible.

“I am in no position to predict what Israel might do. The man ruling Israel is foolish and insane, and he has a foreign minister who spoke of striking Egypt’s Aswan Dam with an atomic bomb. The Israeli government is not normal,” the minister told Al Qabas newspaper.

“The Israeli prime minister refuses to commit to a halt in settlement construction and refuses to talk about Al Quds, the 1967 lands and the refugees. We have a highly critical situation. The Arabs and the whole world stand on one side and Benjamin Netanyahu on the other side,” he said.

Kuwait, the current chair of the Gulf Cooperation Council, has no diplomatic relations with Israel.

Shaikh Mohammad said that Kuwait was working on a reconciliation meeting between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas leader Khaled Mishal to help heal the split between Palestinian factions.

“We are supporting the Egyptian efforts in this regard and we expect the meeting to be held in Cairo within ten days,” he said.

Earlier attempts to broker a compromise between the Fateh and Hamas factions have failed, but Mishal on Sunday hinted that the rivals could now be close to a deal.
