Treasures of Ottoman sultans will be exhibited at Russian capital’s famous Kremlin Palace starting May 26, Turkey’s ambassador to Bahrain has said

“A total of 106 pieces including personal belongings, ceremony costumes and daily outfits of Ottoman emperors, as well as symbols of the empire, family trees and objects reflecting the daily life in palaces will be on display until August 15,” Haldun Osman said.

“Unique pieces from Topkapi Palace’s Treasury section such as boxes and flasks covered with gemstones like ruby and emerald, kaftans worn by sultans during special ceremonies and paintings will also be exhibited.”

The exhibition is within the scope of a cooperation launched between Istanbul’s Topkapi Palace and Moscow’s Kremlin Palace with the opening of “Treasures of the Moscow Kremlin at the Topkapi Palace” exhibition in İstanbul on March 12. The display of the 16th and 17th century Russian artwork will last until June 7.

Topkapı Palace was the official residence of the Ottoman sultans for 400 years, from 1465 until 1856, and was included on UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 1985. Built in 1459, the palace is a complex made up of four main courtyards and many smaller buildings. The palace was converted into a museum in 1924.

Large collections of porcelain pieces, robes, weapons, Ottoman-era miniatures, Islamic calligraphic manuscripts and jewelry are on display in the museum.
