Three Kuwaiti MPs who on Wednesday visited Mohammad Al Jassem, the activist detained in prison since last week, called upon the authorities to allow him to go home, saying that he did not deserve to be there.

“He should be allowed to leave the prison and go home without delay, either through a personal guarantee or by paying bail,” Waleed Al Tabtabai said. “Prison is not for people like him and he should be freed,” he said soon after the parliamentary human rights delegation made the visit to the central prison. The MP said that Al Jassem who has been detained since Tuesday and imprisoned since Saturday was in good health and high spirits.

MP Khalid Al Adwa said that Kuwait’s human rights record demanded that Al Jassem leave the prison and go home with his family.

According to MP Mohammad Al Hayef, the prison was not fit for humans and called for the immediate release of the Kuwaiti activist.

On Tuesday evening, hundreds of people representing several formations held a rally in Kuwait City to express their solidarity with Al Jassem.
