Bahrain to install security cameras in vital locations

Bahrain’s government is to install high-tech security cameras in streets and vital locations.

The cameras will help preserve security and protect public and private property, the government said at its weekly session on Sunday.

“Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa has instructed the interior minister to launch the first phase of the project,” Bahrain News Agency (BNA) said. “The cabinet’s decision stems from its keenness on reinforcing security and stability and the protection of public facilities and private property,” BNA said.

Despite impressive urbanization, Bahrain has been slow in introducing street cameras. The traffic directorate has set up a few cameras to monitor red light jumping, one of the country’s major causes of accidents, but the non-existence of relevant legal texts has hampered police work on the issue.
