Israel warned of God’s wrath for inflicting pain and suffering on Palestinians

A prominent Qatar-based Islamic scholar has warned Israel of the wrath of God for inflicting pain and suffering on Palestinians in Gaza.

“They are angering God by starving and besieging people in Gaza and not allowing them to receive any assistance. They think that they can torture people and make them suffer and yet get away with it. Their arrogance has pushed them to attack activists carrying humanitarian assistance to Palestinians under siege in Gaza,” Shaikh Yousuf Al Qaradhawi said. “God looks at all His people and He does not accept injustice and abuses. Their day is coming soon. The corrupt Zionists are war-mongers. I believe that Israel’s day of God’s wrath is coming very soon because they have crossed all lines, driven by their confidence of getting the American veto and weapons,” he told worshippers in Doha.

Israel’s raid on the flotilla last week was a barbaric and unexpected crime that should not go unpunished, said the scholar who has a large number of followers across the Muslim world.

“When the Israelis said that they would block the aid ships, we thought that they were just mere threats. Nobody ever thought that the Zionist gang in Israel would really attack activists and volunteers on board a defenceless ship carrying humanitarian aid,” he said.

However, Al Qaradawi also blamed Arabs for their weak positions, saying that the Jewish state would not dare such attacks if it knew that this would draw a serious response and anger from the Arabs.

“The Arabs are dead. In the past, they used to condemn such criminal acts, but now their sleep is turning into death, with no reaction,” he said. “There is no room for the Arab Peace Initiative.”

The initiative was launched at the Beirut Arab Summit in 2002. MPs in Kuwait and Bahrain have urged their government to pull out of the peace for land offer, arguing that Israel was not interested in making peace.

Al Qaradhawi said that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas should now withdraw from the “indirect talks” with Israel and announce the end of the peace process.

“I hope that the Palestinian Authority would say that it is no longer working on peace with Israel. We did not gain anything from these lies called the peace process,” he said.

The scholar reserved his praise for the “great” Turkish stand on the Palestinian cause, saying that it was “heroic” and that Arab countries should feel ashamed.

“We have to greet our brothers the Turks. Some people thought that Turkey had lost its link with Islam, but the recent incident showed that Islam was still strong in the hearts of its people,” he said.

Qaradawi urged the Palestinian factions to stand united against Israel’s aggressions.

“It is not acceptable any more that some Palestinians shake hands with the Zionist murderers,” he said.

In Bahrain, several rallies were organized by political societies and NGOs to condemn the Israeli raid and call for an end to peace initiatives and direct and indirect talks.
