Mehdi Agha Jafari, the chargé d’affaires at the Iranian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, is likely to become Iran’s next ambassador in Bahrain, an Iranian news portal has reported.

“The term of the current Iranian ambassador to Bahrain, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, has come to an end and he will be replaced by Mehdi Agha Jafari unless there is an extension,” Asriran said. “Abdollahian will be given a high position within the foreign ministry in appreciation of his good performance in expanding relations between Bahrain and Iran,” the news portal said, quoting “well-informed” sources that it did not name.

The news portal said that Iran would also name its first ambassador to Bolivia. Last week, Iran said that it appointed Mohammad Jalal Farazmand, a career diplomat who also served in Bahrain and Yemen, as its new ambassador to Kuwait. He will replace Ali Jannati.
