Qatar Charity (QC) has opened a field office in the Comoros Islands to oversee its development projects there.

The office in the capital Moroni will co-ordinate the efforts of other Qatari Charitable organisations in the development of the island, Mohamad Bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi, assistant foreign minister for follow-up, said at the inauguration ceremony attended by local officials and representatives from the Arab League. “It will help in implementing the agreement signed between the Qatari humanitarian organisations and the Comoros government at the development and investment conference in Doha, last March,” he said.

QC board member Abdul Wahab Al Musleh said that the office would focus on education and culture, healthcare, water and sanitation, promoting income-generating projects and skills, social awareness, media, housing, agriculture and response to disasters.

“Qatar Charity has allocated QR55 million for development projects in the Comoros Islands over the next five years”, he said, quoted by Qatari daily Gulf Times. “Our main projects feature a primary and elementary school, sponsoring 150 orphans, as well as implementing income-generating projects and promoting the skills of poor families.”
