Body of Bahraini tourist missing in Thailand found
The body of a Bahraini tourist who had been missing since Sunday at Phuket’s Karon beach in Thailand was found on Tuesday morning, local media reported.
The body of Ali Al Saeed, 25, was found at 7am today about 1.5 kilometres from where he disappeared at the northern end of the beach, Phuketwan said.
Bahraini embassy officials have been informed and are awaiting formal identification of the man, the report said.
Al Saeed was swimming with two Bahraini friends when they found themselves in difficulties. The two friends were however pulled out of the waters and a search and rescue operation using a jet-ski and a dinghy was launched to find Al Saeed.
The three Bahraini tourists were guests at the Patong Express Resort. Patong, Karon and Kata are Phuket’s most popular west coast tourist destinations.
According to the report, a Chinese tourist drowned on the same day. He was pulled from the water and later died at Patong Hospital. He and his wife were staying at Kata Sea Beach Resort.
The drowning prompted calls for Karon beach, and possibly other beaches, to be closed on days when conditions are dangerous.
Lifeguards have said they are unable to patrol the whole length of the four-kilometre beach and needed resorts to warn guests about the dangers of Karon, Phuketwan said.
Last year, 57 people drowned in the waters of Phuket.
