Give me a wife and I will vote in favour of the constitutional reforms, an elderly Turkish man told the ruling party.

“I will say ‘Yes”. That is easy. But, you have to find me a woman whom I can marry,†Ömer Sosyal, 96, told Suat KınıklıoÄŸlu, a deputy with the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) when the politician asked him what his vote would be, Turkish media reported.

Kınıklıoğlu, also the deputy chairman of the ruling party’s foreign relations department, was on a tour to urge the public to approve the government-led constitutional amendment package.

Soysal, who lives in the Central Anatolian province’s Kızılırmak district, was determined to receive a positive answer from the politician.

“I cannot live all by myself anymore. No one is helping me on the issue.”

It was not the first time Soysal has sought help for his “problem.†He had voiced his demand for a mate during a visit by Agriculture Minister Mehdi Eker last year, Hürriyet Daily News & Economic Review said.

There were no reports on what Kınıklıoğlu told Soysal after hearing his request.

Turkey will go to the polls on September 12 to vote on a series of constitutional reforms proposed by the country’s government.
