Justice ministry reiterates call to all formations to regularize their situation

Bahrain’s justice ministry has renewed a call to all formations to regularize their situation before the end of the grace period.

The ministry last week said that organizations, groups and formations that did not apply for licensing should adhere to the laws and regulations and register before the end of Ramadan expected on September 10.

Bahrain has launched a crackdown on political groups that have been operating without proper licensing from the ministry and has arrested several members and supporters of Haq Movement, a group that has refused to be under the umbrella of the 2005 Society Law.

In a statement issued on Monday, the ministry said that all acts of terror, violence, sabotage and vandalism should be condemned and should not be condoned by any of the country’s political societies.

Societies cannot condemn acts of terror and excuse them at the same time and should uphold the rule of law, the ministry said, in an apparent reference to a statement by Al Wefaq, Bahrain’s largest political society, on Saturday calling for the immediate release of suspects arrested on charges of involvement in acts of violence.

Ali Salman, Al Wefaq’s leader, said that there should also be a new chapter of open dialogue instead of violence. However, the ministry said that no act of violence and vandalism would be accepted amid steady pledges by the government of a zero-tolerance policy towards “illegal attitudes.”
