Iftikhar Al Hashemi and Maha Al Kadhemi have made history in Kuwait by becoming the first women to broadcast the weather on Kuwait TV.

The breakthrough into what had been hitherto last month a men’s realm came almost four decades after Kuwaiti women stepped into media work thanks to radio presenter Fatima Husain.

“The weather bulletin is a very significant segment on the television programmes and it has numerous followers,” Iftikhar said. “Many people plan their outdoor activities on land or in the sea after they know about the weather conditions. There are also many other people who decide on their outfits after they watch the weather news,” she said, quoted by Kuwait news Agency (KUNA).

For Maha, the experience is a new challenge, but she said she felt confident about it.

“I have learned about the weather through training workshops and I pride myself on having had a real expert on the issue as a trainer,” she said.
