Saudi women will be taking part in an unprecedented marathon in the English city of Sheffield next month, a Saudi paper reported.

The race will be held on October 9 under the patronage of Princess Fadwa Bint Khalid Bin Abdullah, the wife of the Saudi ambassador to the United Kingdom, organizers said.

Participants will have to wear adequate attires and men will not be allowed to attend the race to be organized by a committee of Saudi students at British and Irish schools, Saudi daily Al Riyadh reported on Monday.

The event, “There are Blessings in Movement”, will also feature activities and lectures related to health education and will stress the link between obesity and diabetics, the paper said.
