Saudis can now use their IDs to enter Kuwait

October 7, 2010

Kuwait’s interior ministry said that Saudi citizens can now drive or fly into the country just by showing their identity cards.

“The decision was taken based on the joint statement by the Saudi and Kuwaiti interior ministries on September 22 and allows all citizens of Saudi Arabia to enter Kuwait through all land, airport and seaport border points just by showing their smart identity cards,” the ministry said in a statement published in Alam Al Yowm daily on Thursday.

The two countries last month signed an agreement in Manama that allows their citizens to move between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia without the need for a passport.

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries had earlier agreed to boost the movement of their citizens within the six-member alliance through the use of IDs.

Leaders of Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the UAE have repeatedly called for greater social, monetary and economic integration to consolidate the alliance established in Abu Dhabi in 1981.
