Qatar plans to recruit 150 doctors from Egypt in the first phase of its headhunt for medical staff, Qatari media reported.

The medical authorities will start next month recruiting doctors for primary health centres and family medicine departments, Qatari daily The Peninsula reported on Friday.

The 150 doctors will be recruited between November and May 2011, Egypt’s Health Minister Dr Hatim Al Jabli said in Cairo following a meeting with his Qatari counterpart, Dr Abdullah Al Qahtani.

A senior Egyptian health official said that Egyot and Qatar could set up medical and pharmaceutical joint ventures in an Arab or Muslim country.

“Egypt has accumulated a wealth of experience and has competent and skilled medical staff who can help ensure the success of the ventures,” the official said, quoted by Qatari Al Arab newspaper.
