Bahrain welcomes fact-finding missions on arrests
Bahrain on Monday said that it welcomed anyone keen to undertake a fact-finding mission in the kingdom.
“Whoever wants to learn the facts about the situation in Bahrain is most welcome,” Prime Minister Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa and Crown Prince Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa said, Bahrain News Agency (BNA) reported. “Official channels to gather information and data are available and the focus on the truth will consolidate Bahrain’s stances. The whole world is now aware of the lurking dangers of the sabotage groups after their intentions and character were revealed and Bahrain successfully tackled their terrorist plot,” they said at a meeting.
Bahrain has been under international media watch following news of the detention of 23 people on charges of plotting against the state and seeking to undermine the country’s security and stability.
The public prosecutor last month charged the 23 suspects, including two who live in London in absentia, amid pledges that all would be granted all their rights.
International rights groups have claimed that there had been abuses during the detainees’ arrest and detention and that the government should uphold its rights commitments. However, the government has rejected the charges.
The official news agency reported that Prince Khalifa and Prince Salman stressed that Bahrain was a country of institutions, laws and equality between citizens in their rights and duties.
