King Abdullah receives Yekaterina - SPA

A Georgian woman has become the first woman ambassador to Saudi Arabia after presenting her credentials to King Abdullah.

Yekaterina Mayering Mikadze is the Georgian ambassador to Kuwait and represents her country in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and the UAE.

Few women diplomats are accredited in Saudi Arabia, and these include Susan L. Ziadeh, who assumed the position of deputy chief of the US mission in September 2009, and Ulla Maija Nevalainen, who became deputy chief of the mission at the Finnish embassy in Riyadh in November 2009.

Before her appointment in March, Yekaterina headed diplomatic missions in Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon.

In press statements published in Georgia, she said that the Arabian Gulf was a top priority for her country in economic cooperation on real estate, agriculture, tourism and finance.

In receiving Yekaterina and other newly-accredited ambassadors to Saudi Arabia, King Abdullah, this week, called for joint global efforts to establish peace and justice.
He also talked about the need to safeguard the interests of humanity.
