Independent candidates: They made history by clinching 17 of the 40 seats. A combination of liberals and business-oriented lawmakers, they are expected to boost economy-related legislation in the lower chamber.
Al Wefaq: Bahrain’s largest society reinforced its standing by winning the 18 constituencies in which it fielded candidates. It also carried the 18 constituencies in which it had municipal candidates.
Losers:
The Islamic Menbar: The Muslim Brotherhood society gave the appearance that they would easily win, but eventually did much worse than expected, losing five of its seven seats in the 2006- 2010. Its chairman Abdul Lateef Al Shaikh was not re-elected.
Al Asala: The Salafi formation had a dismal performance, keeping only three of the eight seats it had in 2006 -2010.
The National Democratic Action Society “Waad”: The country’s largest liberal society once more failed to win any seat despite the high standings of its candidates.
