Each of Kuwait’s 1.1 million people will receive KD1,000 ($ 3,559) in cash and free essential food items from February 1, 2011 until March 31, 2012.

Kuwaitis who will be born before February 1 will also benefit from the decision made by the Emir Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah as Kuwait gets ready to celebrate the 50th anniversary of independence, the 20th anniversary of its liberation from Iraqi occupation and the fifth anniversary of the emir’s ascendance to power.

Radhwan Al Radhwan, the state minister for cabinet affairs, said that the decision was endorsed by the government at its weekly meeting on Sunday evening.

According to 2009 figures, Kuwait’s total population was 3,441,813, including 1,087,000 Kuwaiti nationals and 2,354,261 foreigners.
