February 11, 2011

Qatar Charity (QC) has built 300 homes in Pakistan’s southern Punjab as part of its efforts to provide shelter for 5,000 families, the charity foundation has said.

“This achievement comes within the framework of the second phase of the campaign to aid those affected by the floods,” Abdullah Hussain Al Neima, Deputy Board Chairman and Managing Director of QC, said. “The phase of early recovery at a cost of QR37.5m is expected to benefit 307,000 people. The campaign includes providing shelters to 5,000 families, helping launch income-generating projects for about 20,500 families, and reconstructing 50 schools destroyed by the floods.”

The official pledged that Qatar Charity will continue its efforts to help the people affected by the floods in Pakistan with the cooperation of philanthropists, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

At least 14 million people have been affected by the worst floods in Pakistan’s history triggered by the annual monsoon rains.
