Iran names new envoy to Kuwait

February 18, 2011

Iran is to appoint Ayatollah Rouhallah Qahramani as its next ambassador to Kuwait, a Kuwaiti daily has reported.

Qahramani, the governor of Gilani province, is expected to take up his post in Kuwait City within weeks, Al Rai daily said.

Tehran last May named Mohammad Jalal Farazmand, the head of its foreign ministry’s Gulf directorate, as its new ambassador to Kuwait to replace Ali Jennati, but withdrew the nomination before he could take the post officially.

No reason was publicly given for the decision to replace Mohammad Jalal Farazmand, a career diplomat who also served in Bahrain.
