Cabinet expected to reject financial bonus for Kuwaitis

Kuwait’s government is reportedly reluctant to approve a bill which would give Kuwaitis earning more than 1,000 dinars, a monthly state grant of 50 dinars.

Mustafa Al Shamali, the finance minister, told reporters that the cabinet rejected the bill on the grounds that approving the increase would make a new burden on the state budget.

Retirees, widows, divorcees and people unable to repay bank loans receive help from the special assistance fund as part of the cabinet’s commitment to ensuring the wellbeing of all segments of the Kuwaiti society, he said.

The minister said that he hoped the cabinet and the parliament would reach an agreement over salary increases, an indication that the government will return the bill to parliament for further discussion and amendments, Kuwait Times daily reported on Thursday.
