Kuwaiti lawmaker wants street named after Khaldoon Al Naqeeb

April 30, 2011

A Kuwaiti lawmaker has urged the government to name a street, a public square or a University of Kuwait building after Dr Khaldoon Al Naqeeb, a prominent sociologist who has just passed away.

MP Salah Al Mulla said that the motion he submitted was to express gratitude to the leading Kuwaiti thinker.

Al Naqeeb, 69, was the dean of the University of Kuwait between 1978 and 1981 and again between 1986 and 1992.

He was the co-founder of a magazine dedicated to sociology and was its editor-in-chief from 1983 to 1986.

Al Naqeeb authored several research and studies, published mainly in Arabic magazines, and focused on the Arabs in a globalised world, the future of the Arab social thinking, social conditions in the Arabian Gulf and the future of the Gulf in an increasingly globalised world.
