Kuwait repatriates its diplomats from Yemen

June 1, 2011

Kuwait on Wednesday decided to call back its diplomatic mission from Sana’a, citing the deterioration of the security situation in Yemen.

A senior foreign ministry source told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the Kuwaiti diplomats left the Yemeni territory on Wednesday morning.

The Kuwaiti embassy has kept a limited management staff, all Yemenis, to handle necessary business, the source said.

Earlier this week, the families of the Kuwaiti diplomats in Yemen urged the foreign minister to repatriate them.

Several Western countries have advised their citizens against travel to Yemen while some embassies in Sana’a have shut down as violence escalated and fighting intensified.
