Qatar Airways has no plans to launch a low-cost carrier

Manama Qatar Airways has no plans to launch a low- cost carrier (LCC) in light of the “very good performance” the airline has shown in the last three years, its CEO has said.

“I have always mentioned we will set up an LCC as soon as we feel that our market share is being taken away,” Akbar Al Baqer said. “This position has never changed. Until now Qatar Airways is managing very well with our full service carrier, but as soon as we are being undermined by the entrance of low-cost carriers we will then launch low-cost,” he said.

Al Baqer said the company’s net profits totalled $205 million for 2009-10 and over $230 million in 2010-11.
