Bahrain sets up human rights ministry

June 20, 2011
By

Bahrain on Monday renamed the social development ministry as the human rights and social development ministry.

The new ministry will be led by Fatima Al Beloushi who in 2005 became the second woman minister in Bahrain’s history after she was appointed social development minister.

Al Beloushi, a former dean at the University of Bahrain, has also been in charge of the health portfolio since late March in a limited cabinet reshuffle.

The human rights ministry will have an undersecretary, an assistant undersecretary and three directorates in charge of human rights organisations, legal affairs and human rights agreements and reports.
