King Hamad keen on whole truth about incidents: Interior minister
King Hamad Bin Eisa Al Khalifa has given instructions to reach the core of the truth about the incidents that hit Bahrain, “no matter how painful it may be,” the interior minister has said.
“There is a need to have the highest standards of discipline,” Lieutenant-General Shaikh Rashid Bin Abdullah Al Khalifa said. “Whoever has transgressed the orders or instructions has in fact wronged us ahead of the others. We want to be part of the solution, and not of the problem.
“Our forces focus on a robust commitment to applying the law while our role in light of the events unfolding in the country is to preserve security and impose law and order. The instructions of HM the King are very clear and aim to reach the truth, regardless of how painful it is, in order to serve justice,” Shaikh Rashid said.
Several people, including demonstrators, civilians and security men, were killed during the protests launched on February 14 and in the subsequent acts of violence, and King Hamad ordered a probe to determine responsibilities.
The committee tasked with looking into the events from February 14 until the end of May is scheduled to submit its report before August 10.
In May, Bahrain said that it was taking action against five ward security men in a probe into the death of a detainee.
In his speech during a Public Security parade at the Special Security Forces Command, Shaikh Rashid said that the nation looked forward to a brighter future and did not wish to see “a return of the bitter experience and dark days witnessed by Bahrain.”
