A fundraising campaign launched by Bahrain’s Information Affairs Authority (IAA) for Somalis has raised around $4 million (Dh14.7 million), the IAA president said on Monday.

“The campaign raised 1,427,961 Dinars,” Shaikh Fawaz Bin Mohammad Al Khalifa said. “It was a religious, moral and patriotic duty and the IAA assumed it. I wish to thank all those contributed to raising the funds,” he said as he handed a cheque to Mustafa Al Sayed, the secretary-general of the Royal Charity Foundation.

The foundation will convey the funds to the Somalis ,alongside other donations to be offered to help Somali people hit by drought and famine.

“The funds will be used to provide food and build health centres and other vital facilities,” Al Sayed said.
