Gulf Air marks Qatar flight anniversary with special packages
Bahrain’s national carrier Gulf Air has unveiled a series of initiatives tailored to the Qatari market that include 50 per cent discount on the second ticket in September and a free trip on any Gulf Air flight after two trips covering 6000 miles, Qatari media reported.
Karim Makhlouf, Gulf Air Chief Commercial Officer, told reporters in Doha that the offers were part of the celebration of the airline’s 61 years of service to Qatar.
More daily flights
The airline is also planning to have one more daily flights between Qatar and Bahrain, he said.
“We have five flights daily between Doha and Manama and we plan to add one more because of the increasing flow of tourists. Although the tourist traffic from Doha was affected between February and March this year because of the crisis in Bahrain, it went back to normal in April and even increased by four to five per cent compared with last year,” he said, quoted by Qatar Tribune daily.
Special place
“Qatar has a special place in the history of Gulf Air as it is not only a founding member of the airline but also has the distinction of receiving our very first flight in Doha on March 24, 1950. Since then we have flown more than nine million passengers between the two capital cities. And here we are today commemorating this historic occasion and reinforcing our commitment to Qatar,” Makhlouf said.
As part of its network strategy to expand into niche markets, Gulf Air in January started services to eight new destinations in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, the official said.
It has recently announced the launch of services to three more destinations- Rome from November 30, Entebbe in Uganda from December 5 and Juba, the capital of South Sudan, from February 7, 2012.
