November 11, 2011

Kuwaiti housewives who are at least 60 years old and have no source of income will be receiving 225 Dinars ($814) a month, the labour and social affairs minister has said.

Under the Social Aid Bill to be promulgated next week, the housewives will be given the monthly assistance even if their husbands are economically well off, Mohammad Al Afassi said.

Among new privileges for Kuwaiti women introduced by the Bill, the rent allowance paid to divorced women will be increased from 100 dinars ($362) to 150 dinars ($542), and divorcees who have five children or more will get a monthly assistance of 900 dinars ($3,255), Kuwaiti daily Al Watan reported.
