Kuwaiti boy enters world in a flurry of elevens

A Kuwaiti baby boy entered the world in a flurry of elevens after he was born on 11/11 at 11:11pm at a private clinic, a local daily said.

“It was a great surprise for the couple and the baby’s special birthdate has been recorded,” Al Watan newspaper reported.

Several Kuwaiti women wanted to deliver on the date and have reportedly requested their hospitals to help them.

However, for doctors and nurses at Kuwait hospitals, the new tendency by expecting mothers to choose their delivery date is turning into a nightmare.

According to the daily, doctors said that within 12 hours, 23 pregnant women wanted to deliver on November 11, seeing the date as exceptionally auspicious.

“It was a planned attack on delivery rooms in both public and private health facilities by number status-conscious women,” the daily said.

However, Dr Sulaiman Sa’ad, a consultant with the health ministry, said that there was a need to tackle the growing penchant of expecting mothers to select the delivery date of their babies.

“Their wishes could cause serious health issues, and unfortunately, medical staff do not seem to care and do not warn the mothers about the dangers of their choice,” he said, quoted by the daily.

Doctors should clarify the side effects or consequences of decisions to stimulate the delivery without reasons, he said.

“Regretfully, some hospitals and clinics charge more for such deliveries and seem to be trafficking in people’s health. The health ministry should review all the birth cases and ensure there is no foul play,” he said.
