Bahrain said on Saturday that it arrested with the help of neighbouring Qatar a cell of five Bahrainis plotting to carry out acts of terror in the kingdom.

Targets included vital establishments, the King Fahd Causeway, the Interior Ministry building and the embassy of Saudi Arabia.

Brigadier Tarek Al Hassan, Interior Ministry spokesman, said four Bahrainis were arrested in Qatar and documents, cash, a computer that included details about some vital establishments were seized from their car.

On interrogation, they admitted that they left Bahrain and were encouraged to head to Iran through Qatar and Syria and set up an organisation that will carry out acts of terror in Bahrain.

The suspects gave the name of a fifth accomplice who was arrested in Bahrain.
