Panel to study proposed amendments to Bahrain constitution

Bahrain’s lower chamber has postponed a debate on amendments to the constitution by one month. The lawmakers agreed at a special session on Thursday dedicated to the discussion on amendments to refer them to a parliamentary legislative committee for further studies.

Kuwaitis get four days for national celebrations

Kuwaitis will have a four-day holiday to celebrate their national holidays later this month. The celebrations will be from Friday 24 until Monday 27 after the authorities decided to replace Saturday, a regular day off, will be compensated by Monday.

Police look for teenager for getting woman pregnant

Police in Kuwait are looking for a 17-year-old boy after he got an Asian domestic helper pregnant, local media reported. According to Arab Times, a sponsor who took the helper to hospital after she complained of abdominal pain was shocked to learn that she was pregnant.

MPs use religious overtones in parliament oath

Kuwaitis urged to face challenges

Kuwait’s new parliament elected a veteran politician and three-time speaker Ahmad Al Sa’adoun as speaker of the house yesterday. He received 38 votes against 26 to his only competitor, liberal MP Mohammad Al Sager. The chamber broke out in wild applause after MP Khalid Al Sultan, who chaired the session, announced the result.
