Kuwait court postpones pro-Iran spy ring trial

March 7, 2012

Kuwait’s Court of Appeal on Monday postponed the trial of seven people on charges of espionage for Iran to April 16.

The seven defendants were charged with spying for Iran and of passing on information about the Kuwaiti and US military in Kuwait to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.

The network was busted in May last year and in March a court in Kuwait City sentenced two Iranians and a Kuwaiti national, all serving in Kuwait’s army, to death on March 29 for belonging to the ring.

The court condemned a Syrian and a Bidoon (stateless Arab) to life in prison. One Iranian man and the only woman defendant, reportedly the daughter of one of the men on the death row, were acquitted.

Iran has vehemently denied any link with the spy ring.
