Kuwait arrests gold raid gang members

April 10, 2012

Kuwait police have arrested two men attempting to smuggle 14 kilos of gold out of the airport.

The pair, one from Kosovo and the other from Serbia, were reportedly members of a gang of eight people who stole 36 kilogrammes of gold from a shop in Al Mubarkiya on April 2, local Arabic daily Al Rai reported.

Security sources told the newspaper that the gang was made up of eight people from Kosovo and Serbia who had entered Kuwait separately on tourism visas and spent one week before they raided the shop.

The sources added that four members flew out of Kuwait two hours after the raid, carrying with them 15 kilos of gold.

The police are still investigating.
