GCC condemns “provocative” visit to Abu Musa

Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary General Abdul Lateef Al Zayani has expressed “deep regrets” and voiced “strong condemnation of the provocative visit by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the Iran-occupied UAE island of Abu Musa.”

“This visit is a violation of the sovereignty of the UAE over the islands and does not alter historic and legal facts or the sovereignty of the UAE over the Greater Tunb, the Smaller Tunb and Abu Musa,” Al Zayani said in remarks published on Thursday.

“The visit is also an irresponsible move that is not in line with the good-neighbours policy adopted by the GCC countries in their dealing with Iran. It does not fit either with the peaceful calls issued by the GCC states to solve the issue of the islands through direct negotiations or by taking it to the International Court of Justice in The Hague,” he said.
