Qatar seeks solutions as water consumption reaches high levels

Qatar’s water consumption has tripled in the last seven years, the energy and industry ministry and chairman of the Permanent Committee on Water Resources has said. Mohammad Bin Saleh Al Sada attributed the increase to the rising population and to the expansion of urbanization.

Kuwait arrests 26 expats over forged passports

Police in Kuwait have arrested 26 Bangladeshis for using forged passports to enter the country. The detained previously lived in Kuwait, but they were deported for various reasons. However, they were able to re-enter the country after they obtained forged travel documents in Bangladesh, Kuwaiti daily Al Anba reported on Monday.

Bahrain court orders re-trial in high-profile case

Bahrain’s Court of Cassation on Monday ordered the re-trial in the Court of Appeals of the 21 defendants charged with attempting to topple the state government. The court also reduced the prison term against Al Horr Yusuf Al Sameekh from two years to six months.

Kuwait to give monthly payouts to help the handicapped

Unemployed Kuwaiti women looking after a handicapped person will be given KD300 ($1,080) a month, a senior official has said. Isam Bin Haydar, the deputy general director of the Public Authority for the Disabled (PAD), said that the assistance payout would be retroactive from June 2010.
