May 5, 2012

Nine Jordanians were killed and six others injured on Saturday in a traffic accident south of Ghour Al Safi, the Civil Defence Department has said.

The dead were evacuated and the injured were taken to a nearby hospital after rescue teams rushed to the scene of the accident and administered first aid, Farid Shara, the department spokesperson, said, Jordan’s Petra News Agency reported.

Seven of the victims were girls studying at two universities and the other two were the drivers of the bus and of the water tank. A young girl is among the other six girls injured in the accident, Petra said. Some of the injuries were critical.

The interior minister who visited the victims ordered their transfer from a public hospital to the military hospital. The police are still investigating the tragedy.

Reports in Jordan said that the girls were on their way from Al Aqaba to Karak, the two Jordanian cities located 165km from apart.
