Qatar Charitable Society has launched a housing project in the city of Van, in eastern Turkey, for the benefit of the communities affected by last year’s earthquake.

The QR 6.5 million project, funded by the State of Qatar, was executed in four months and 150 families who lost their homes will benefit from it.

The housing programme was carried out in cooperation with the local partner of Qatar Charity in Turkey (the humanitarian relief, human rights and freedoms) includes 100 mobile housing units and 50 prefabricated residential units in addition to a mobile medical clinic and a mosque for prayer and teaching the Holy Quran., Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

Yusuf Ahmad Al Kuwari, the Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Charity, said at the inauguration ceremony, that the project reflected “the warm and distinct relations of fraternity and cooperation between Qatar and Turkey.”

“The work is within the framework of assistance to the affected and needy people as urged by Islam,” he said. “The project contributes to the resumption of normal lives and social stability for 150 families who benefit from the prefabricated or mobile housing units, the mosque and a mobile clinic.”

A 7.2-magnitude earthquake killed more than 600 people in Van in October followed by another in November that killed at least seven people and destroyed 20 buildings.
