Ten Bangladeshis die in Bahrain dawn blaze

May 29, 2012

Ten expatriates died on Sunday morning of smoke inhalation related to a fire in their home, a civil defence official said.

A fire broke out at the old house in East Riffa, 20 kilometres south of the capital Manama, and the civil defence, alerted at 4.24 am, rushed to the scene, the official said.

The men, from Bangladesh, seemed to have died before the fire was brought under control.

A probe into the causes of the fire was launched and initial investigations indicate that it was due to a short circuit.

“We call for the installation of fire detectors and for higher safety standards to ensure such painful tragedies are not repeated,” the official said.
