Kuwait looks for online identity thief

June 22, 2012

Kuwait police are looking for a blogger who usurped the identity of a Kuwaiti woman and set up a highly controversial Twitter account.

The victim became aware of the bogus account with potentially far-reaching implications when a friend blamed her for posting immoral and pro-depravation remarks on the microblog site, local Arabic daily Al Anba reported.

Upon checking the account, she was shocked to discover that her identity had been usurped and that someone else was using the account to post “debauched views”.

The police discovered that the person behind the fake social network account used a picture of the victim she had published on Facebook.

The e-crimes team is investigating the case, the daily said.
