Kuwait searches for ATM blackmail woman

October 8, 2012

Kuwaiti police are looking for a woman who allegedly blackmailed people into giving her money if they wanted to avoid a scandal.

The woman, believed to be in her 30s, would walk up to a man who withdrew money from an ATM and would tell him that she would start screaming that he sexually harassed her if he did not hand her a 20 dinar (Dh54) bill.

“Pay up the money or you will end up in prison,” the woman reportedly told the victims as she thrust herself at them, the police was told.

The victims who complained to the police said that they preferred to give her the money rather than face a public scrutiny and a sex-laced scandal, Kuwaiti daily Al Rai reported.

Most of the crime happen after 10pm, they said.

The police have reportedly asked the banks where the incident occurred to hand over surveillance camera in a bid to identify the woman and arrest her.

Street assaults, especially by women, are a rare occurrence in Kuwait.
