Saudi Arabian authorities are questioning an Arab national over blackmailing a fellow citizen into divorcing his wife so that he could marry her.

The man, believed to be in his 40s, has reportedly contacted the husband telling him that he had pictures, audio recordings and video clips proving that he had an intimate relation with his wife in her bedroom.

He said that he should divorce her if he did not want the incriminating data to be posted on the internet, local Arabic site Sabq reported on Sunday.

The blackmailer said that he was ready to marry the wife after the divorce and that he would give the husband the dowry he had offered her as well as the video and audio recordings that would have exposed her. on social networks

However, the husband contacted the authorities in the Saudi capital Riyadh and reported the blackmail.

The police agreed with the husband to pretend that he accepted the blackmailer’s conditions and that he needed to meet him to finalise the deal.

The blackmailer, arrested in the police ambush, admitted his scheme, but said that there was no relation between him and the husband’s wife.

He said that he obtained her pictures from his sister and that he had no video recordings of her.

The police said that they were still looking into the matter.

Authorities in Saudi Arabia have had to deal with an increasing number of cases and complaints about threats to post pictures or recordings of women or young girls on the internet.

Warnings have been issued regularly to young women to avoid sliding into compromising situations.
