Truck driver blocks highway over ATM blues

January 29, 2013

An angry truck driver in Saudi Arabia blocked a major highway for over an hour after being unable to get his bank card out of an ATM machine or withdraw money even though the machine showed the transaction was successful.

The expatriate resident, whose nationality was not revealed, told people who gathered around him trying to convince him to let traffic pass that the ATM receipt stated that the money had been withdrawn even though he received no cash, Saudi Arabic daily Okaz reported.

The enraged man insisted that he would not move his truck off the Khamis Mushait–Riyadh highway until he was handed back his bank card and the money he attempted to withdraw. Several people pleaded with the man to remove his truck and allow the resumption of traffic on the busy highway, telling him that the best option for him was to contact bank officials.

After more than an hour of ‘negotiations’, the driver finally agreed to move his truck aside and to take up the matter with the bank.

According to the daily, a bank spokesperson said that the driver would get his money back after the records showed that the withdrawal had failed.
