Bahrain king appoints Salman as First Deputy PM

Bahrain’s king Hamad Bin Eisa Al Khalifa has appointed Crown Prince Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa as First Deputy Prime Minister.

Prince Salman will be in charge of developing the performance of the executive branch agencies, the royal order said, Bahrain News Agency (BNA) reported.

Prime Minister Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa has four deputies, Shaikh Mohammad Bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Shaikh Ali Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Jawad Al Arayyedh and Shaikh Khalid Bin Abdullah Al Khalifa.

Prince Salman, 43, has been Bahrain’s crown prince since 1999 when his father, the former crown prince, became the ruler of the country upon the death of his father, the late Emir Shaikh Eisa Bin Salman Al Khalifa. He was later appointed Deputy Supreme Commander of the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF)

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in political science from the American University in Washington (1992) and a Master’s degree in history and philosophy from Cambridge (1994).
