Saudis launch blood campaign for Boston victims

Saudi graduate and postgraduate students in the US are launching a blood donation campaign in favour of the Boston terrorist bombing victims. The campaign was decided after organisers had the backing of a prominent religious figure in Saudi Arabia who encouraged them to go ahead with the move.

Kuwait court to consider Al Barrak’s appeal on Monday

Kuwait’s court of appeals will on Monday start considering the case of opposition leader and former lawmaker Musallam Al Barrak. The ex-MP was on Monday sentenced to five years in jail for undermining the status of the Emir in a speech he delivered on October 15 in Kuwait City.

Peninsula Shield Bahrain headquarters hailed

Two Bahraini political societies have welcomed reports that the Peninsula Shield, the military arm of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), will have additional headquarters in Bahrain. A London-based Saudi daily this week said that “an additional permanent headquarters for the Peninsula Shield is set to be inaugurated in Bahrain soon”.

Five research proposals that address needs and challenges faced by society have been awarded grants by the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF). The grants were part of the fourth cycle of QNRF’s Junior Scientists Research Experience Programme (JSREP) aiming to boost Qatar’s research capacity through funding ‘junior’ scientists aged 40 or under.

Kuwait MPs spar over Thatcher street naming proposal

Tremors in Bahrain: People urged to be calm as buildings evacuated

Thousands of people were evacuated from high-rise buildings in the Bahraini capital Manama on Tuesday after an earthquake in Iran triggered an aftershock in the country. The mild tremors caused panic among many people, but no injuries or damages were reported.
