Qatar to push environmental awareness for Earth Day

Qatar’s national campaign for the conservation and efficient use of water and electricity has received a boost after the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development and Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote its positive values.

Tarsheed, the five-year campaign launched last April, aims to increase environmental awareness and educate the public about the importance of consuming resources wisely.

Through the partnership, Kahramaa looks forward to generating a meaningful response from the community and hopes to eliminate wasteful practices across all segments of society.

Under the agreement, Qatar Foundation will help facilitate Kahramaa’s mission by hosting several joint activities associated with Earth Day.

Communities in Qatar have been urged to visit their booth at Landmark Mall on April 23 and at the Villagio Mall on April 24 to learn more about conservation efforts through a number of activities that include educational lectures and quizzes. Children will be treated to fun-filled games as part of the community-based drive.

“Qatar Foundation is keen to demonstrate its ongoing support for the campaign by encouraging community members to develop a new mindset and to acquire the tools they need to teach younger generations about environmental conservation and the significance of building a sustainable future,” the foundation said in a statement e-mailed to Gulf News.

A decree will also be circulated across all leading organisations in Qatar as a symbolic commitment to better practices of conservation and to the campaign.

“Tarsheed presents a significant opportunity for organisations and individuals to join in the national effort to protect the country’s resources and reduce water and electricity consumption. Kahramaa is appealing to all Qatar’s residents to take an active role in the campaign so as to ensure Tarsheed’s success and the realisation of Qatar’s National Vision,” the foundation said.
