June 7, 2013

A dazzling collection of rare artworks and precious objects from Uzbekistan is going on display at Katara, Qatar’s epicentre of art and culture. The exhibition, a joint project between Katara and the Forum of Culture and Arts of Uzbekistan Foundation, also features masterpieces of eastern calligraphy, miniature art and traditional culture and heritage.

The first section displays book samples of eastern calligraphy and miniature art from the seventh to the 21st centuries, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reports. The classical and modern painters from Uzbekistan in the second session feature works belonging to musicological and private collections.

The third section, labelled ‘Rarities’, presents rare historical costumes from the collections of the Bukhara state architectural artistic museum and Tashkent State Museum of Arts while the fourth section, called ‘Traditional Culture of Uzbekistan’, presents the best works of applied arts of Uzbekistan including woodcarving, embossing, embroidery and gold embroidery.

“Experience the beauty of Uzbekistan at Qatar’s first ever celebration of the timeless and diverse Uzbek culture,” Katara said. “The cooperation of many museums and private collections makes this exhibition unique and gives an opportunity to appreciate the art and culture of Uzbekistan” said as it prompted art and culture lovers to see the rare collection.

The exhibition, open from 10am to 10pm, concludes on June 16.
