Kuwait’s new prime minister Shaikh Jaber Al Mubarak was sworn in on Sunday, Kuwaiti media. Shaikh Jaber, who was appointed last week to succeed Shaikh Nasser Al Mohammad, took the oath before the Emir Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmad in the presence of the crown prince, News Agency (Kuna) reported.

Bahrain: Blast on parked bus near British Embassy

The British embassy in Manama remained open on Sunday, hours after a small explosion occurred inside a minibus parked near the building. “It is business as usual,” an embassy staff told Gulf News. “We are operating normally and the offices are open. Everybody is fine and we are working with the police on the issue.”

Kuwait’s new government should be ready before the end of this week, according to a local daily report. “I cannot say exactly the day, but the government will be formed within this week,” sources told Al Watan daily. The Arabic newspaper did not name the sources, but said they were highly placed.

Warning sounded as two children drown in Qatar

Two children have drowned as they were playing near a swimming pool in Qatar, according to a newspaper report. The four-year-old boy and two-year-old girl were found after a frantic search by their families who were sitting together, Al Sharq daily said. No further details were available.

Kuwait MP wants disclosure of media bosses’ bank account details

A Kuwaiti lawmaker has called for launching a campaign to have the editors in chief of local papers and owners of satellite channels disclose their bank account details. MP Faisal Al Musallam said he was certain that some media people had money deposited in their bank accounts to influence their writing.

Bahrain hires MET officer to help reform police forces

Bahrain has hired John Yates, the former assistant commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, to oversee the reform of its police force, a British daily said. Yates is the second super cop to be appointed by Bahrain this week after a high-profile report by an international fact-finding commission concluded that security forces needed reforms.

Bahrain marks World Aids Day by noting 2011′s 64 cases

Thirteen Bahrainis have been diagnosed with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) in 2011, the acting health minister has said. The figure represents one fifth of the 64 cases in the kingdom in the first 11 months of the year, Dr Fatima Al Beloushi said as Bahrain marked Aids World Day.
